A preview of the July 7, 2017, edition
        of The Carmel Pine Cone

July 7 - 13, 2017

Dear Readers,

The big slide blocking Highway 1 in Big Sur won't be cleared anytime soon, but thanks to ingenuity and plenty of hard work, a footpath and some rental bikes are making it possible to visit what locals are calling, "Big Sur Island." Chris Counts reports.

Carmel may soon have a new city attorney, and the likely candidate is a familiar figure. Mary Schley has that one.

The seal pup rescued from Carmel Point two weeks ago has unfortunately died, despite best efforts to bring him back to health. Mary Schley has that one, too.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta explains his reasons for voting against "Kate's Law," and they're not what you might think.

Carmel may soon decide to ban plastic utensils and the like. A driver set some kind of record this week when she hit two cars and two pedestrians while trying to park. The new roundabout it almost finished and seems to be working as intended, officials say. The city's beach fire rules are a success, the police chief says. We have another edition of our magazine, "Healthy Lifestyles," this time focusing on the prevention and treatment of cancer. And my editorial explains who the country should be looking to for answers about illegal immigration, and why.
