A preview of the September 8, 2017,
edition of The Carmel Pine Cone

September 8 - 14, 2017

Dear Readers,

When Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced an end to the DACA program earlier this week, the thinking was President Trump was planning to trade congressional renewal of the plan for funding of his border wall. But Congressman Jimmy Panetta says, "No way." Kelly Nix reports.

We all know it was really hot in these parts last weekend, but you may be surprised at just how high the thermometers went. Chris Counts has the details.

A tiny local school district is asking for help with upgrading its meager housing for teachers. And we mean meager. Chris Counts has that one.

Humpback whales have been putting on a remarkable show while feeding off Point Lobos. Monterey County is jumping on the goats bandwagon for clearing fire-prone brush. Last week's nearly catastrophic fire in Big Sur was caused by a burglar, according to the owner of the home where the fire started. Locals were out in force at Burning Man in the Nevada desert over the last two weeks, where they witnessed a host of amazing events and one horrific one. And my editorial says, if the hurricanes hitting Texas and Florida didn't do it, surely our scorching weather last weekend was enough to convince you to take Al Gore seriously.

As always, I invite you to send me any questions, comments or concerns about our newspaper, and to contact me if you need help making the most of it on your computer, smartphone or tablet.
