Dear Readers,
A milestone was reached in Big
Sur this week with the demolition of the Pfeiffer
Canyon Bridge, and Caltrans says it might only take
6 months for its replacement to be in place. Chris
Counts reports.
The Carmel Belle we all know and love can remain
operating "as is" despite a council ruling last
week, but the restaurant's expansion into an
adjacent storefront is in jeopardy, with no solution
in sight. Mary Schley has the story.
A bizarre multiple murder case in Monterey has
gotten even more bizarre, thanks to new revelations
about how the murders were uncovered. Kelly Nix has
that one.
When HBO came to town last year to produce its
star-studded series, "Big Little Lies," locals were
impressed. But now that the series is on the air,
they may be shocked at some of the things they're
supposed to learn about their home town. Elaine
Hesser has the scoop.
Yet another motorcyclist is suing Laguna Seca for a
crash he had on the track. The man believed
responsible for a fatal shooting on Cannery Row has
been extradited from Mexico. The Carmel city council
has set its major-project spending priorities for
the near future. Residents of one Carmel Valley
neighborhood are seeking an explanation for why they
were flooded during recent rains, and how to prevent
it from happening again. The Big Sur Marathon will
be able to take place pretty much without changes,
despite all the damage to the marathon's route
during winter's storms. Some local residents are
getting much bigger increases in their water bills
than expected. And, speaking of water bills, my
editorial explains yet again who's to blame for our
water shortage and the very high cost of fixing it.
